Поява на світ в умовах війни: як медики Києва підтримують безперебійну роботу, незважаючи на ворожі напади

Ukrainian hospitals are adapting to the realities of war: enemy attacks and blackouts. But behind such adaptation lies colossal work and adherence to safety protocols.

Born during the war: how Kyiv doctors ensure continuous operation despite enemy attacks

On the night of a massive attack on the capital, while Russia was bringing death and destruction, 5 children were born at the Kyiv Perinatal Center. Such events might seem normal now, but in reality, they are the result of colossal work and strict adherence to safety protocols, writes UNN.

Ukrainian hospitals are adapting: they are equipping shelters, installing alternative power sources, ensuring uninterrupted water supply, and developing emergency response plans.

Even before the full-scale invasion, we were offered to install a pellet boiler room, independent of centralized heating. It’s also cheaper. Today, we are probably the only maternity hospital that can exist completely autonomously. Our own boiler room. Our own well – water is always available, even when there’s nothing else. Water reserves. A canteen that works without external power supply. Generators at each branch. There are only six such hospitals in Kyiv that can be fully autonomous.

– said the director of the Perinatal Center, Dmytro Hovseev, in an interview with UNN.

The Perinatal Center also has a corresponding protocol for action in case of an air raid alert; for example, a patient who has not yet entered the active phase of labor is immediately moved to a shelter. Delivery rooms are also equipped in the shelter. If a woman is on the operating table, the surgery continues in a protected operating room. All actions are practiced, and every doctor and staff member knows their role in various situations.

The entire medical team is ready to act according to approved emergency response algorithms – without interruptions and without panic. In case of a critical situation, evacuation routes are worked out, and communication with city services is constantly maintained.

This approach allows the Center to continue its work even during the most challenging periods.
